Off the Ground
▎The “Off the Ground" project, with the theme of site-specific perspective, was designed to level “art" with respect to regional influences. In fact, this problem (Oriental thinking, site-specific perspective recognition problem) has long been known, but it is also a problem that is often overlooked. The word “art" was set by Western countries through the foundation of Western art history, and its influence still affects all areas of art today. This question, “What is art?" has persisted, and it remains a challenge to reconcile the regional influences of art.
▎It is typically large cities that strive to meet Western European standards, and they tend to recognize and accept more individuality than smaller cities. Consequently, young artists must endure competition and high economic costs, and smaller cities experience a loss of young population. Additionally, there is a problem with cultural infrastructure being concentrated in the metropolitan area. The resulting regional power affects the selection of works at international art festivals such as the Biennale, and local power arises between local and metropolitan artists.
▎Through this project, Spaceium aims to find a way to have an objective view of local art diversity. The primary goal of this joint project is to recognize and share the value of each region’s art, free from the criteria of evaluating art based on the most influential Western art history frame. Rather, we seek to examine the perception of art in small cities, large cities, and the world.

OFF THE GROUND

Objects that fall behind the times in a fast-developing society and their curious states are of my interest. In my practice, I attempt to unfold such apparition-like existences found in the vast space of the world and stream of time and search for appropriate situations to place them.
I proceed with the discovery of unnoticed, soon-to-be-eliminated elements in various spaces in order to analyse the relationship between oneself, others and historical vacancies.
